Safe demolition of the P+R car park in Filderstadt-Bernhausen

The P+R car park in Filderstadt-Bernhausen was partially demolished during the first construction phase in 2024 for structural reasons. This work is now continuing as part of the second construction phase to create a modern mobility hub. The project is being carried out with great care in a complex traffic environment, without causing any disruption to the surrounding area. As part of this, we are providing precise planning and support in the specialist areas of land recycling and geotechnical engineering to ensure the site is future-proof.

The courage to change: demolition meets precision

Structural defects made it necessary to demolish the P+R car park in Filderstadt-Bernhausen at ground level. This presented a challenge, as the work is taking place in the middle of a heavily used public space, characterised by limited space, busy bus traffic and proximity to the Deutsche Bahn S-Bahn tunnel. These conditions required, right from the start, thorough planning, precisely co-ordinated processes and safe execution. Work is now continuing as part of the second construction phase.

However, the demolition was merely the start of the overall project: whilst the lower levels, access ramps and one parking level were retained as a temporary roof, concrete refurbishment on the lowest level ensured long-term usability – directly above the sensitive S-Bahn tunnel.

Due to the confined conditions, the actual demolition work was and is being carried out with the aid of a building crane. Areas for site facilities, traffic protection for buses and pedestrians, and safety zones for neighbouring buildings were comprehensively planned to ensure the work could be carried out safely and with minimal disruption.

Our expertise lies in the careful planning and implementation of challenging projects such as this one. The result: a safe decommissioning process that causes no disruption to the surrounding area, whilst at the same time paving the way for the site’s future use.

Seamless coordination throughout all project phases

From drawing up a demolition plan to providing on-site technical support and interdisciplinary services such as foundation-related matters, we continue to support Filderstadtwerke throughout all phases of the project: our work focuses on the careful analysis of demolition methods, the tendering and awarding of demolition contracts, the planning of safety measures, and the supervision of construction works. Particular attention is paid to the safety of the S-Bahn tunnel and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Safe on the roads and forward-looking

Despite its complexity, this project serves as a prime example of how a demolition project in a busy urban area can be well planned and successfully carried out. Co-ordination between the various stakeholders – from public authorities to local residents – creates a solid foundation for strengthening the site in the long term with a safe and sustainable mobility concept.

The Mobility Hub in Filderstadt-Bernhausen is set to become a venue that will continue to serve as a key transport hub in the future and, thanks to meticulous planning, will be able to adapt to changing requirements. The project will thus make a valuable contribution to a modern and functional transport infrastructure.
