Shore reinforcement at the Übersee beach resort on Lake Chiemsee, Bavaria
Project description:
The municipality of Übersee operates and maintains a public beach on the shores of Lake Chiemsee, whose central sunbathing area is bordered by a retaining wall with a walkway leading down to the water. Over the years, this structure had been severely damaged by scouring, settlement, and tree roots, and there was a risk of partial collapse. The plan was to demolish the existing structure and construct a new shoreline reinforcement. The new reinforcement consists of riprap stones arranged to create seating areas. A sheet pile wall was installed beneath them to prevent scouring. Behind the stone steps, a path made of concrete slabs runs parallel to the lake all the way to the beach facility building. An access staircase to the lake was also built into the block steps, and a barrier-free mobile ramp was integrated to facilitate access to the lake for people with disabilities.Reason:
- Creating a safe and attractive waterfront with barrier-free access to the lake.
Services:
- Preparing a Soil Assessment Report
- Service Phases 1–9
- On-site Construction Supervision
Additional project data:
- Total length of the beach section to be restored: approximately 130 m
- For the shoreline reinforcement, use blocks of Jura stone measuring 50x50x100, which are stacked on top of one another to create seating areas.
- Steel sheet pile walls as foundations and protection against scouring
- A 7.0-meter-wide staircase leading down to the lake
- Mobile ramp as an additional barrier-free access point to the lake
- A 1.80-meter-wide sidewalk made of concrete pavers along the new riverbank reinforcement
- Total construction cost: approximately €385,000.00
