Rhine-Main Link, Hydrogeological Studies, Power Line Route from Lower Saxony to Hesse
Project description:
The Rhine-Main Link is one of the key grid expansion projects of the energy transition. Starting in 2033, this high-capacity energy corridor is expected to deliver up to eight gigawatts (GW) of renewable wind power directly to Hesse, thereby strengthening the Rhine-Main economic region. GINGER HPC conducted studies of the hydrogeological properties of the subsurface on behalf of the project. Using the data collected, the project owner can subsequently create a parameterized 3-dimensional subsurface model of the power line route and move the project into the construction phase.Services:
- Conducting Hydraulic Tests in Open Boreholes and Groundwater Monitoring Wells
- These include pumping, infiltration, and seepage tests
- In addition, conducting packer tests in open boreholes in solid rock to determine even the smallest hydraulic permeabilities
- Conducting packer tests as valve tests, such as slug, drill-stem, and pulse tests, as well as water pressure tests
- Continuous monitoring and logging of the test processes, and adjustment of pump rates and measurement intervals
- Remote monitoring is also available if needed
- Coordination and collaboration among the numerous project teams and stakeholders
Advantages:
- Consistent availability and high flexibility thanks to the use of up to six measurement teams working simultaneously at various locations throughout Germany
- A highly capable team of over 20 employees, specially trained in hydraulic testing, guarantees the timely delivery of results
Additional project data:
- The project area extends approximately 570 km from Mannheim to Oldenburg
- Distribution of site plans using special file formats for Google Earth and Google Maps
- Coordination in the field and data analysis via cloud-based services
- Construction cost > 1 billion euros
